Gwininitxw Laxyip

The last undeveloped, intact stretch of the entire Skeena River.

Gwininitxw Laxyip is among the largest undisturbed wilderness areas in the Skeena watershed - British Columbia’s second-largest wild salmon river system.

Gwininitxw territory’s intact, diverse ecosystems are home to interconnected, ancient systems of life. Its glaciers deliver the clean, cold water Skeena River wild salmon require to thrive. Pristine fish habitats sustain genetically distinct populations of all five species of wild salmon and steelhead.

Big rivers. Little rivers. Lakes. Wetlands. Glaciers. Floodplains. Old-growth interior rainforests. Expansive alpine horizons. Healthy wildfire ecosystems.

This is among the most scenic, wild areas remaining in North America. It supports an unbroken lineage of grizzly bears, mountain goats, wolves, wolverine, and moose.

Through the centre of it all, 75 breathtaking kilometres of the Skeena River thread through Gwininitxw territory - the last undeveloped, intact stretch of this mighty river system.

Intact and whole, from mountain top to valley bottom, as far as the eye can see.
